Kristen Westrick

My name is Kristen and I am a Certified Yoga Nidra teacher, Reiki Master, sound healer and musician. I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physiology from the College of Medicine at The University of Arizona where I did both renal and neurological laboratory research. I have been working in Oncology drug development for the past 8 years, specifically in breast cancer.

Due to my science and medical background, I have a large interest in understanding how energy imbalances in the body can lead to many types of dis-ease. I have studied chakras extensively over the years and how they can be used for healing. Science has been able to measure energy channels/flows both around and in the body and has demonstrated the healing power of yoga, sound healing and even Reiki. I have found that science backs up these spiritual practices and I think that’s pretty cool!

My personal healing journey started seven years ago at a local yoga studio where I attended Yoga classes with sound healings, Reiki, and crystal therapy. I was amazed at the bliss and fulfillment I felt when I left class and it inspired me to begin a spiritual quest of self-discovery, to develop my own spiritual gifts, and to learn as much as possible about energy healing including the science behind the practices. I experienced first hand what alignment with my highest self feels like through these healing modalities. These were my tools for empowerment, balance, and enlightenment! I felt called to begin my teaching journey for others which led me to completing a Reiki Master program and Sound healing class at Southwest Institute of the Healing Arts in Phoenix, Arizona. I knew this was only the beginning for my teaching journey!

Not long after that I was in a car accident that resulted in many issues with my memory and speech. After several months and a slow recovery, I began consistently doing one Yoga Nidra session a day and performing Reiki on myself each night with sound healing using crystal bowls and tuning forks. Yoga Nidra slows the brain waves to just above sleep level, quieting the mind, and allowing the body to restore itself. Miraculously through this daily practice, my recovery sped up, my speech and memory drastically improved, and the energy was free flowing again in my body! I was amazed at how powerful the practice of Yoga Nidra is for both emotional and physical healing and I could hear intuitively that it was time for me to share this powerful practice with others. I went on to complete Advanced Yoga Nidra Teacher training at the Southwest Institute of the Healing Arts.

I completed additional sound training via a music activation experience with Scarlett de la Torre, who is an international DJ, sound sorceress, and Goddess! I learned the sacred geometry of music, how to play my instruments intuitively and use them as a means of meditation and healing. Sound tools that I use are chants, crystal bowls, drums, chimes, tuning forks, rain stick, rattles, and the harp.

In my free time you can find me at the beach, skateboarding, playing the Beatles on harp, or playing with my pets. I am beyond passionate about Yoga Nidra and sound healing and am excited to be a part of the Black Sheep team!
