The first half of class will be spent in a guided meditation practice called Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep. This meditation practice is performed while the students are lying in their most comfortable position, typically supported by props. The meditation will guide your mind into a space between wakefulness and sleeping. As the waves of the mind are stilled, the brain waves will progressively fall into less active states, including delta waves which are the deepest and most restorative. This practice elicits both a psychological interruption and physiological restoration using a series of body, breath, and awareness techniques. Once the thinking and doing of the mind is removed, you can experience yourself in the purest vibration where you’re in direct communion with your higher self. Yoga Nidra is excellent for trauma recovery and those with anxiety seeking to relax, restore and rejuvenate physically, mentally, and emotionally. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as three hours of REM sleep.
Some of the sacred sound instruments that may accompany this practice may include the use of crystal bowls, Koshi chimes, ocean drums, tuning forks and/or other gentle sound healing instruments. The deep healing vibrations of these instruments are the catalyst that will assist each student in reaching a state of bliss and deep relaxation. This is the perfect opportunity to take time near the end of the work week to unwind, de-stress, and renew the body, mind, and spirit. This gentle and meditative class is open to yogis of all levels. Blankets, blocks, and bolsters will be provided. Bring your own eye pillow if you have one!
